Haitian Creole (generally called Creole by Haitians) is spoken nationwide in Haiti by its population of over 11 million people and by about 1 million Haitian-American people in the United States. Haitian Creole is one of the two official languages of Haiti, along with French (spoken by a small minority of about 10% of the population). It is closely related to other French based Creole languages those spoken in Guadeloupe, Martinique, Dominica, St. Lucia, as well as in French Guyana and Louisiana.
